- NATIONAL COUNCIL FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITY (NCPWD)
The National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) is a State Corporation mandated to coordinate all issues of Persons with Disabilities in National Development. NCPWD was set up by the Persons with Disabilities Act No 14 of 2003 to coordinate, supervise and the implementation of programs and activities to enhance the participation of Persons with Disabilities in National Development and to protect and promote the rights of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).
The National Development Fund for Persons with Disabilities (NDFPWD) anchored in NCPWD supports the provision of Assistive Devices and Services to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Kenya to enable these individuals to function in society. The Fund gives priority to those individuals requiring assistance to function in a learning, training or work environment. Applications to the National Development Fund for Persons with Disabilities are open throughout the year.
The National Development Fund aims to eradicate the link between poverty and disability by providing financial support to organizations and individuals. The Fund currently supports the following funding categories:
- Assistive devices and services– To improve mobility and access. Includes wheelchairs, crutches, surgical shoes, hearing aid, white cane and others.
- Educational assistance – Scholarships for persons with disabilities who wish to pursue education but cannot do so because of financial difficulties.
- Economic Empowerment & Revolving Fund – Help for groups of persons with disabilities to set up small businesses or revolving fund schemes.
- Infrastructure & Equipment – Assistance or social care and education institutions that provide services to Persons with Disabilities.
- Cash transfers – Support for households of persons with severe disabilities who are in extreme poverty.

- THE NATIONAL FUND FOR THE DISABLED OF KENYA (NFDK)
NFDK seeks to offer the best support services to persons with disability in Kenya through provision of resources, promotion of awareness on the contribution they make towards national development, and advocacy of appropriate measures to minimize conditions giving rise to disability.
The Fund’s impact on the socioeconomic empowerment of persons with disability is evident nationally through its donations Programme and flagship projects spread throughout Kenya. NFDK runs many events that help raise awareness and money to help empower the disabled.
- UNITED-DISABLED PERSONS OF KENYA (UDPK)
The United Disabled Persons of Kenya(UDPK) is the Umbrella organization of Disabled Persons Organizations in Kenya. It was established in the year 1989, with head office in Nairobi. UDPK is mandated to Advocate for the Rights of persons with disability. Promoting PWDs equal access to opportunities and active participation to mainstream development processes. Through its membership of over 200 Disabled Persons Organization, UDPK targets to reach all disabled population county wide. UDPK is a federation of organizations for disabled persons in Kenya.

Special Olympics is a global organization that serves athletes with intellectual disabilities working with hundreds of thousands of volunteers and coaches each year. Since the establishment of Special Olympics in 1968, the number of people with and without intellectual disabilities who are involved with the organization has been growing, but the unmet need to reach more people with intellectual disabilities is staggering.
Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Those activities give them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship.
